OUR MISSION
'To deliver services to, and represent the interests of the whole community
and provide a quality living environment within available resources.'

 

To assist us in delivering this mission, we have a set of objectives that encompass out organisation. These are:

  • To provide value for dollar services to meet the community needs;

  • To operate our business in a manner which ensures continued financial viability and provides accurate budgeting and regular financial modelling; 

  • Achieve direct and clear relevant communication with the broader community;

  • To facilitate and encourage the economic development of the area; 

  • To establish adequate policies and procedures which ensures clear, concise and relevant two-way internal communication. 

  • To promote a positive image of our organisation as an approachable, open, service orientated organisation;

  • To ensure that change is implemented in a structured manner, causing minimum disruption to our customers.


Council Information

Council is governed by a group of people called Councillors. These Councillors are elected by the community every 4 years. In Narrabri Shire we have 12 Councillors.

Council meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, excluding the month of January, in the Council Chambers. The meetings commence at 9.30am and members of the public are welcome to attend. Business Papers, detailing the matters to be discussed at Council meetings, are available for perusal by the public the week prior to each monthly meeting, at the Administration Building, any of the Shires libraries, or through this website.

The Narrabri Shire is historically famous in the agricultural sector, the Shire is looking to the future across a range of industries that will build on our strong economic foundation. Additional natural gas and coal mining projects are joining existing organisations, creating diverse employment and ancillary business opportunities.  A desirable place to live, Narrabri Shire has a strong cultural heritage and a vibrant community atmosphere that provides an attractive and exciting place for business and families.

The town of Narrabri is the administrative heart of the Shire.  Set against the backdrop of the Nandewar Ranges and on the banks of the Namoi River, Narrabri is an energetic regional centre.  The Shire offers modern facilities and services, great shopping and plenty of accommodation. The Shire also boasts a number of towns and villages including Baan Baa, Bellata, Boggabri, Edgeroi, Gwabegar, Pilliga, and Wee Waa.

Narrabri Shire covers an area of some 13,065 square kilometres and is the heart of the rich Namoi Valley in North West New South Wales. The entire population of the Shire is 13,778. The area is renowned for its wealth in the production of some of the world's highest quality cotton, wheat, beef, fat lambs and wool.
